The Drawhive takes standard frames and works by having an outer case and and a slide-out inner chamber.
Opened by levering with a hive tool in a recess at each side, to break the propolis seal, the inner chamber can then slide out horizontally, on extending support rails, until the top of the chamber is fully exposed. Brood frames rest in the inner chamber just as in a standard brood box.
 

The bees stick the parts together only in a minor way and they have no access to the slides when closed. Opening the Drawhive is no more difficult than releasing a crown board.
